Every morning after breakfast we sat in comfy chairs just inside the low fence from the boardwalk. We had great ocean views from Uluwatu around to Seminyak where we watched the learn to surf classes with amusement, and occasionally we could see Gunung Agung. We were in the shade of trees with a sea breeze until after lunch. We had food and drinks from the wide ranging menu brought to us by the friendly staff. The same service is provided all day, including dinner. In the evenings there was often live music, fire dancers, sort of burlesque dancing, and circus style entertainment.
Nowhere in the hotel or our room were there any signs about not drinking or gargling or rinsing with tap water. You had to already know. The room itself was ideal for a couple. The bed was super king size and comfortable. Even though I requested a room with no bath tub we got one. It meant showering while standing in the bath tub and I hate that.
The hotel has pool side areas for families, a large air conditioned lounging room for adults only, and spa and massage facilities.
Waterbom is across the street and it is a very short walk to Discovery Mall for shopping. Lippo Mall is a bit further away. Both offer international goods but not at bargain prices. For cheap local goods there are markets nearby. Also nearby Kuta Square has a bit of both.
We have seen most of the island before, and as the traffic is getting worse and worse we chose to not go anywhere we could not walk to. Our son lives nearby. It took him 45 minutes to drive home at peak hour. It took 15 minutes to walk, albeit a shortcut. We did drive to Uluwatu one day. It took hours of stop/start traffic. Thankfully the airport is only a fifteen minute drive away – most times.
About seven of the restaurants mentioned at the hotel are on the street outside, but you can book food and drinks to your room from them. We watched the televised start of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race and cricket for the rest of the day from one of them. In winter you can watch all the footy. There is a Guardian Pharmacy and a Mini Mart close by. The hotel has a small shop for essentials like Pringles and drinks with most being cheaper than outside. We found the menus and prices of the hotel’s restaurants as good or better than any further along the street. In other words, unless you are a first time visitor who wants to see the island, there is no need to go any further than a couple of hundred metres from the hotel for anything.
